This one indeed appears to be fixed in Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10: I can configure printers when my network cable is unplugged or when my ethernet connection is switched off in NetworkManager. Therefore closing as Fix Released, feel free to reopen if you still have the problem. ** Changed in:

Tim, can you make system-config-printer keep running when there is no network? As long as CUPS is working system-config-printer should work, too. Currently, it stops without needing to stop. One could show a warning somewhere if the use of remote printers is accepted but now local network

Instead of exiting, s-c-p should temporarily disable the Show printers shared by other systems feature (with an internal ignore flag for each missing CUPS server?). Presumably this also happens if one of many CUPS servers on a large network is disconnected. Till, is this a relatively simple fix

A workaround for this is to go to: System-Administration-Printing-Server Settings and ensure that Show printers shared by other systems is deselected before disconnecting from the network. This is still not ideal, as this option can only be reached if the computer is still connected to the
