Accepted partman-efi into bionic-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/partman-
efi/71ubuntu2.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

I would like to see a more complete set of test cases here for SRU
verification.

Indeed, but we should really be catching these errors earlier, when the
installer is running and the user is partitioning.
