I support the conclusion by Marcel.
I have HP 450 G6 and brightness up/down generate the same scancode as mic mute.
Also, in dmesg I get:
[6.422405] hp_wmi: query 0x4 returned error 0x5
[6.433681] hp_wmi: query 0x4 returned error 0x5
[6.447825] hp_wmi: query 0xd returned error 0x5

I have a new line `hp_wmi: bad event status 0x5` added into my dmesg
report everytime when I plug in the charger into my laptop - HP Pavilion

Possibility that this error results in some hotkey combinations (brightness
up/down) not working?
The corresponding combinations create no scan code.
And hence there not handled by ACPI maybe it's related to the hp_wmi module?

This does not appear to be an error to worry about. The WMI driver for
your machine is performing a feature query with the ACPI driver with
HPWMI_FEATURE2_QUERY. This seems to be a feature that is enabled on HP
WMI firmware from around 2009 onwards. Some machines may support this,
however it seems
