Xorg crashed
Hi Connor,
Thanks for your reaction. Long ago I upgraded and the problem is solved
from then. In my opinion this case can be closed.

If this is solved, I guess bug #180770 will also be solved.

That bug was about newer upstream version. Are you saying that this
crash is with the one from 7.10? (nvidia-glx-new 100.14.19)
Anyway, you are doing things the wrong way. You do not need to run dpkg-
reconfigure. Please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.

And the Xorg.0.log file.

Thanks for this reaction. Indeed, those are the drivers I currently
installed.
dpkg --list | grep -i nvidia
ii nvidia-glx-new 100.14.19+2.6.22.4-14.10
NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x/X.Org 'new' driver
ii nvidia-kernel-common
Probably the installation is broken in some way, since it cannot
initialize GLX. Restricted-manager enabled some options (AddARGBVisuals,
AddARGBGLXVisuals, NoLogo), but adding those back probably don't do
anything.

Not too much. I found a slightl different config with these options, but
it results in the same black screen.
