I was able to re-produce this error after updating my sources.list to
Intrepid repository. Attempting to launch update manager produced this
error. I'll gladly attach additional information upon request.

In my above comment, I meant to say that I attempted to launch Software
Sources, not update manager as I previously described. I apologize for
