I am getting the same bug on an asus laptop, just an ext4 volume.
put "nautilus /home/username/recipes" and I no longer can double click links to
folders on desktop.
uncheck that entry, and links start working

Possibly integration problem of Btrfs & LVM
I just check on another laptop (ACER, other is 'Schenker'). It's the
same reproducable bug, that you cannot open folders directly form
desktop when you have nautilus added to 'Startup Applications'.
I may have a clue: These 18.10-installations are on Bt
the log has those warnings
'nautilus-deskto[3224]: cannot open folder on desktop, freedesktop bus not
ready'

Thank you for your bug report, could you add the journal log from a session
where you have the issue?
Also note that nautilus 3.30 in disco removed handling of the desktop so
technical that issue is deprecated
