This is a clean install (not an upgrade) from a Hardy Alpha 3 CD install
of Gobuntu.
It appears to be to do with language packs.

This machine came with gOS, I used gparted to create a few partitions

I tried to install the tribe-3(a clean install) of hardy, and it had the
same problem. It's true that we can do the update via aptitude or
synaptic, but it isn't the fix. I say that because it's not a punctual
problem, it remains a lot of time and updates.

I just jumped on the Hardy train last night, and I'm getting this same
error when trying to do the partial upgrade available this morning.
Here's the apt.log file from my /var/log/dist-upgrade.

Thanks for your bugreport.
What kind of crash was it? A segmentation fault? Or is something printed
on the terminal window (or the file ~/.xsession-errors)?
Thanks,
Michael
