No, those things works. I've tried it with aMSN and it just works.
Cheese crashes if I don't create symlink /dev/video to /dev/video0
manualy. Camorama also works perfectly. It seems Cheese is one of those
apps that rely on /dev/video and can't find other devices. It doesn't
even have setting to do
Video, sound and mixer devices are being created normally. There is no
bug here?

Please do the following:
1) unplug the device and wait a few seconds
2) in a terminal, run "sudo udevmonitor -e > /tmp/udev.log"
3) plug the device in, and wait a few seconds
4) stop the command
5) attach the /tmp/udev.log file to this bug report

Same here with Hardy Beta. After Logitech 4000 webcam was plugged, dmesg
wrote correct messages and /dev/video0 was created. But Cheese was
crashing untill I made symlink /dev/video.
