I tested this on Hardy Heron using celestia version 1.5.0-0ubuntu1 and I
was able to see Phobos and Deimos.

I just tried to compile Celestia 1.5.0 on my AMD64 under Ubuntu 7.10 -

It seems that everything is complete (I can visualize objects I can't
see with auto-installed 1.4.1)

I can confirm this bug in Gutsy.
Searching objects like the ones Louis-Xavier reported here, Celestia finds them
and you can go to their position, but objects are not really shown.
