fyi: the SQUASHFS errors I saw relate to your install media, be it
CD/DVD/thumb-drive/etc, and maybe logical or physical. Once I saw them
I stopped looking as it wasn't a bug - but user error before the install
started... (what my prior message is talking about, ie. validate
download is flawless,

This failure was caused by a corrupted file system, or device failure.
eg. look in the logs and you'll see messages like these :-
Oct 12 06:46:16 ubuntu kernel: [ 424.281840] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression
