Symptom was present on Gutsy (7.10), on Toshiba Satellite. Now with fresh install of Hardy (8.04) on same machine, symptom NOT present. Symptom seems non-reproducible. Suspect it was fixed accidentally in the mean-while as a part of another bug. Unless someone else still experiences this problem,
