I enabled apport, and got a crash report for Totem! I think this is a separate bug in Totem not exiting gracefully when gnome-panel crashes. I removed Totem from my panel, then tried to reproduce the bug. gnome- panel crashed as expected, but apport did NOT create a new crash report. So I'm back
