This bug appears to have returned in 9.10. I'm having the exact same
issue. All albums appear empty and I get this appearing in the terminal
output:

klauncher said: Error loading 'kio_digikamalbums'.

I get this in my .xsession-errors:

Mhmm, my last digikam update only disabled debug output. I doubt that this is
related but I'm happy to hear that it works now.
@Brendan: When it happens again: The problem was/is with your self installed
stuff
below /usr/local: e.g. /usr/local/lib/kde3/kio_digikamalbums.la. Clean up
stuff

Your problem was:
Could not open library '/usr/lib/kde3/kio_digikamalbums.la'.

I've check the .la files here and found no reference to libexiv2.so.0.
In fact in hardy libexiv2-2 pkg is used everywhere and

Hi Brendan,
digikam work without problems here. if checked an dist-upgraded hardy
(i386) still no problem. As it's a different problem (complain about lib
instead of URL) can you open a new bug report, please?
Just to make sure nothing is kept open: logout/login and retry.
Add to the new report
The original bug, and my own, seem to be the same, but I'll open a new
bug as you request.
Here is the output, just in case I can't add the bug for a bit.
ii dcraw 8.80-1
decode raw digital camera images
ii
Try the
whereis libexiv2.so
whereis kio_digikamalbums.la
command.

Hmm, didn't find it, so I did another after:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~: whereis libexiv2.so
libexiv2: /usr/local/lib/libexiv2.la /usr/local/lib/libexiv2.so
/usr/local/lib/libexiv2.a

kio_digikamalbums:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~: locate
Not fixed here. What did I miss?
Could not open library '/usr/lib/kde3/kio_digikamalbums.la'.

You received this bug notification because
Installing exiv2 older version 0.15 solved the exiv2.so.0 error message,
but the kio_digikamalbums.la message is still there and the
albums/pictures do not show up...

I can confirm that I am seeing the same behaviour with digikam 2:0.9.3-1
on Kubuntu Hardy Heron (AMD64 version), currently up to date.
$ apt-cache policy digikam
digikam:
Installed: 2:0.9.3-1
Candidate: 2:0.9.3-1
Version table:
*** 2:0.9.3-1 0
500 http://mirrors.uwa.edu.au
I can confirm this. All other views except 'album' shows images. I tried
'digikamalbums:/' in konqueror which fails too.
I reinstalled kdebase-kio-plugins and digikam which didn't help.
