Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: k3b

DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 7.10"
Kernel: 2.6.22-14-generic
K3B Version: 1.0.4
Device: DRX-710UL (which is the Sony DVD RW DRU-710A drive)
Device firmware: BYX5

This device has both USB and Firewire interface. The bug described below
is ONLY relevant to the Firewire interface. Functions through USB work
as expected. I require the device to work through Firewire.

Status with other programs:

Windows XP work 100% in all software and media
Ubuntu. Gnomebaker, tested writing image to DVD+RW and DVD+R. Works 100%

Symptoms:

StartK3B, drive not detected, even if I manually specify device.
If I insert a disc with data on it, the drive becomes visible in K3B, correctly
identifying the media. Changing the media to empty disc at this point change
status to no media present.

>From this point onwards, it it useless even inserting disc with media
present, it will not be mounted in Ubuntu unless I restart the device. I
once inserted a disc and just left it there.

The output of cdrecord -scanbus match the status of k3B i.e. device
present with data disc. Device not present empty media.

Log outputs:
