If I uninstall xdg-desktop-portal the performance does go back to what I
was seeing on previous releases so that does seem to be the culprit.

thank you for your bug report, it looks like an issue with xdg-desktop-
portal , could you try to temporarly uninstall it to see if workaround
the issue?
