Despite having purged the PPA's previously. I needed to reinstall the
PPA's and then re-purge them. That solved my issue.
FWIW I used this bash script to find my 'installed' PPA's.
find /etc/apt/sources.list.d -type f -name "*.list" -print0 | \
while read -d $'\0' file; do awk -F/
You do have some X packages installed from another PPA (paulo-miguel-
dias-ubuntu-mesa-bionic.list) and those are likely causing a failure to
calculate the upgrade. Please try purging that PPA and trying the
upgrade again.
