Should it not be saving into ~/Videos/ or something anyway?
~/.gnome2/cheese/media/ is hardly discoverable/friendly.

I can confirm this on my Dell Inspirion 1525 using Cheese 2.22.0
I have pictures but no videos in the thumbnail area
