Today's Ubuntu system update upgraded Virtualbox to Version
6.1.16_Ubuntu r140961. I had to run the following commands but now
everything is sorted...
$ sudo apt-get install virtualbox-dkms
$ sudo modprobe

Of course that works. An even easier/better solution is to add the
official Virtualbox PPA so you also get updates.
..but that's not really the point of this bug here. Virtualbox is in the
official focal repo and so is the 5.8 kernel (as 'edge'), so they should
be supported. Their combination appa

I had the same problem today. I couldn't even uninstall the original

Having the same problem. After a normal apt-upgrade on my Kubuntu, the
5.8.0-34 kernel was installed and virtualbox-dkms fail to build the
related modules.
Not even the 5.8.0-36 (released today) works.
Please fix it.

Hi,
Having the same problem in 20.04.1. After a normal upgrade, virtualbox-
dkms fails to build and VirtualBox stops working.
I'm only using "official" packages from Ubuntu.
Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem since upgrade. This is one of the major
applications: please consider removing Won't fix and comment on possible
solutions and workarounds
If the kernel is upgraded and virtualbox stops working there are 2 possible
choices:
1. patch the kernel
2. update virtualbox package

Just chiming in to agree with David - please take this issue out of
"Won't Fix". I performed the same steps David says he took with the
same result - Virtualbox is broken through no fault of my own - just
applied a kernel update as I do every time one is found using Software
Updater.
Thanks!

Now that the 20.04.1 HWE kernel has been changed to 5.8, I encountered
this bug with a normal "apt update" and I expect a lot of other people
will as well. I'd like to suggest that this bug be taken out of "Won't
