No such luck for X800XT-PE owners:

I can confirm that DRI is not working on my desktops system with a
Radeon 9600XT
But fglrx works absolutely fine (including Compiz) on my T42 that has a Radeon
Mobility 9600 (xorg.conf attached)
Both systems featuring an up-to-date Hardy with the 2.6.24-10-generic kernel.
So it's obviously not a
nop :(

This is because the fglrx kernel components need to be compiled for
Hardy's kernel. We're dependent on AMD/ATI to provide kernel modules
built for our kernel. Unfortunately, this makes DRI (and everything
dependent on it) not work, so is a critical issue.
