The problem with Lollypop has been solved, probably by one of the
frequent updates of Lollypop.
The problem with Firefox remained, so I now use Chromium. If the
problems are not solved, I move on to another product.

The problems all disappeared after running the synaptic package manager on
request of the notification in the panel. I did run
- fix broken packages
- mark all upgrades and there were 5-7 upgrades indicated.
So probably the software-updater caused the problem and left the system
with those issue
