I recently upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04. The sound worked without
problems before upgrade, but now I don'get any sound at all from the
speakers or the headphone jack.

More specifically, I ran this command:
sudo apt --purge reinstall linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils
linux-image-`uname -r` libasound2
After a restart, sound was available
