The fix identified by https://askubuntu.com/a/1307216/1168625 works
(tested on two workstations).

On all three installations I can run the command "lspci -v | grep snd".
As far as can tell this update does not have the sound modules as part
of its kernel.

In my testing I performed the usual steps to get pulse audio working
which failed. The issue happens when upgrading from

I can confirm this issue on both a Dell 3610 and an Asus P9X79WS.
