Ugh, please ignore the above comment. It was meant for some other bug,
not this one.
That said, I'm working on merging 1.6.6-3 from Debian to Ubuntu.
Hopefully that should fix this. Thanks and sorry for the noise.

Thanks for the report.
Just by installing the package I cannot trigger this problem; it
complains that it "cannot find inband device". I wonder what it would
take to have a reproducer for this.
In any case, this looks like a valid bug. Since there is a known and
easy workaround, I'm marking it
