I checked drivers in Gutsy and under "lib/modules/2.6.22-14/kernal/sound" there is: ac97_bus.ko sound_firmware.ko soundcore.ko The sound_firmware.ko is missing under Hardy I am looking for answers I have not heard anything for a long time Is this bug being worked on??? Thanks Harold --

When you ran the Alpha4 LiveCD, did you verify all the volume controls were unmuted. I recall if you use gnome-volume-control, got to Edit->Preferences, enable each option. In particular I believe the "Surround" option was muted by default and it needs to be unmuted. Thanks. -- No Sound in Hard

Try using 'alsamixer' from a terminal window and make sure all sound levels are unmuted and turned up. By default, ALSA 1.0.16 in Hardy mutes some controls which need to be unmuted before sound can be heard. I just tested Hardy Alpha5 LiveCD and after unmuting, sound is working fine. 00:1b.0 Audi
