As a temporary solution, executing following command in a shell window
de-freeezes the virtualbox-window:
(I have not even to restart virtualbox)
$ xrandr

I experience the same and it doesn't depend on the program. The whole
Windows display just freezes (sometimes it's a 2/3 screen wide
horizontal bar in the middle that gets frozen or smth) and doesn't
unfreeze until I resize the window.
I'm using a Core2Duo with GM965 chipset and X3100 graphics
An by the way, I use version 2.0.2 of virtualbox-ose from the Intrepid
repository.

I believe i can confirm this on Hardy with Virtualbox 1.5.6. I don't use
MS Word myself, but Adobe Photoshop CS3 exhibits similar behaviour.

responding text, though i can 'revive' it by opening a new Windows
