Another update. Using this command I was able to noticeably improve the scrolling performance w/ compiz on nvidia: nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1 (you may also try InitialPixmapPlacement=3) Now I'm getting roughly 50% System and 50% User CPU usage, as opposed to 100%
