I have a similar issue, it happens everytime I tell KNetworkManager to
connect to a access point in the list of found wireless access points.
I'm using Ubuntu Hardy with all updates as of March 19 2008
KNetworkManager just dies with the following in the console:

I could solve this problem by deleting the config files of kde-network-
manger:
rm .kde/share/config/knetworkmanager*

I installed KUbuntu 8.04 from scratch. I also am getting a timeout upon
boot. If I issue sudo dhclient after logging in, I get my network
connection.

I don't get any message at all. It is Gutsy i386. It just hangs the
terminal without any messages or errors at all. My network still works
strangely, but this is a desktop. No wireless here.
