Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04?
Thanks in advance.
I installed the RC on a D630 this morning. It has the 135 Nvidia and
1440x900 display. It worked seamlessly and without incident. The install
process and post-install exhibited no failures. Impressive so far.

I believe this bug is fixed.
I just tried a daily livecd build from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-

Same problem with an HP DV6768SE notebook. i386 version boots up fine,
but the 64bit version, I have to specify vga=775 on the boot options in
order to get decent graphics, or ubuntu to load up at all.

I would suggest that the importance be raised and the bug be opened in
Xorg or the relevant driver. This basically stops people in their tracks
from using the AMD64 CD on MacBook Pro, unless you know how to switch VT
and force GDM to reload.

Well I was unable to find a way to force either of my two machines into
the "low graphics" dialog using the i386 Beta 1 disc. Can anyone offer
any ideas how to do that?

I am also unable to install Ubuntu 8.04 Beta AMD64 on the Dell Latitude

this issue and I can boot the live cd with ease. My guess (with limited
knowledge) is that there are two problems here.

I'm sorry, perhaps the point of my report got lost in the details.
The Hardy Alpha4 amd64 livecd fails to boot to the desktop and dumps the
user into limbo.
I expected the livecd to boot to the desktop or explain why it wasn't
possible.
In what sense is this "not a bug"?

Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report as
such. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make
more sense to raise your question in the support tracker.
