Yeah, I have same symptoms as D4nielfree and Nat.
NetworkManager only shows "wired network"; there is no "wireless
network" option.
I can manually associate with iwconfig, but the interface wlan0 still
doesn't appear in NetworkManager.

i have the same problem with up-to-date 8.04 beta
all modules are installed, i can see wlan0 using iwconfig, iwl3945 is loaded,
but no driver displaying in 'Hardware Drivers' menu, and i cant find any
wireless network

I have a Sony laptop with the Intel 3945ABG network interface. I
searched through google for a while and found a reference to network
manager applet being the culprit. I installed wicd as recommended which
removed nm-applet. I then had no connection problem to my WPA network at
home with hidden SSI
This could be related to bug #204709.

Actually, things aren't working perfectly. I can now connect to any
network, but transfer speeds are extremely slow. I suspect it might be
an unrelated problem.

Hardy's solution did not work for me; no wireless interfaces were
visible after installation, loading and rebooting the alternative
drivers.

I'm having the same issue with an upgrade from Gutsy. When I try to
modprobe iwl3495 it spits back
FATAL: Error inserting iwl3945

Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
and dmesg tells me

It works for me too. The modules didn't insert cleanly until I rebboted,

I have the same problem on lg-s1 laptop with intel 3945 wireless. Linux
When I boot 2.6.22 kernel, wireless is working. In network manager->manual
configuration I see eth0 as "Wireless Connection" and eth1 as "Wired
Connection".
When I boot 2.6.24 kernel, no networks are visible. In network manag

Same here on Hardy Beta. The wireless driver seems to work correctly. It
sees all available networks. However, it cannot connect to any of them.

I've done a fresh install of Alpha6 from CD.
Intel 3945 NOT recognized.
Updated the system using wired connection.
Intel 3945 STILL NOT recognized.
I've checked and I have linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 installed.
