I'd like to add this bug applies to my Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11S laptop too,
so maybe it applies to all sony laptops. The same fix works but it'd be
nice for this to work "out of the box"

The dmesg attachment, incidentally, is useless; it's full of "TKIP
decrypt failed for RX frame". You might find more of use in
/var/log/syslog.

The Ubuntu installer intentionally doesn't do anything to detect sound
hardware, and in fact nowadays does rather little to detect hardware at
all. This is mainly the job of the kernel nowadays, so reassigning.
