Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vmware-player
My system: * Dell Inspirion 9400 * Kubuntu Feisty * vmware-player * vmware-player-kernel-modules * vmware-player-kernel-modules-2.6.20-15 * vmware-tools-kernel-modules-2.6.20-15 * xserver-xorg-video-vmware ((all packages are upgraded with apt-get)) DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=feisty DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 7.04" Problem description: As soon as my eth0 network is disconnected, the vmplayer does not start. Sadly I get not any error message on the console or anywhere. As soon as I do one of the following, I get vmplayer to run: * connect ethernet cable to eth0 device * "sudo ifdown eth0" So - I have a workaround. But this should not be needed. Or there should be at least a suitable error message. I tried several things like re-configuration of the vmnet devices with the network setup script - but each time without any success.
