"apt install indicator-application" and a reboot solved the problem.

Had the same problem but it seems to be fixed after installing
'indicator-applet' and 'indicator-application' packages. I think they were
removed during upgrade for some reason.
I'm not sure both of them are required and believe 'indicator-applet' could fix
this alone, but I'm just happy
