Unsure what the problem was, but I can't reproduce it now
However, the software installation failed dialog gives no list of the
software that it tried to install - it's blank, but gives you the option
to retry, or to add/remove more software. Is this intentional?

Thanks for your bugreport.
I can not reproduce this issue. Especially the error with importing
gconf is puzzeling. Did you try the codec install while a application
was running that upgraded python-gconf? That would explain the issue,
but then its a python/python-support problem.

That was on a clean install. I now can't reproduce the problem after
purging the required codecs, and trying again - it gives the proper
error message about the apt lock, instead of crashing.
