Public bug reported: I installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my 4MB USB dongle using instructions on Pendrivelinux.com. See URL :
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/09/28/usb-ubuntu-710-gutsy-gibbon- install/ I logged in the first time using my USB OK. I logged in using the "Start Ubuntu in USB persistent Mode(saves changes)" and logged in successfully. I added some folders to firefox and then shut down. The second time I tried to boot up Ubuntu using the USB dongle I got the following error message : "The GNOME session manager was unable to lock the file 'home/ubuntu/.ICEauthority'. Please report this as a GNOME bug. Sometimes this error may occur if the file's directory is unwritable, you could try logging in via the failsafe session and ensuring that it is." It then brought up a Username Login window. I had never set a Username or Password for the dongle. I could not boot up the USB dongle without getting this error message. I noticed on the Ubuntu forums that one other person had the exact same problem as me. I am using a Lenova R61i laptop and believe the other person was using a HP laptop. I was able to log in again using the USB dongle and the "Start Ubuntu in Live Mode" but you can't save changes in this login mode. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- can't logon using USB dongle with 7.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197454 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
