Thanks, so yes it seems the session is going away without error logged
there, it would probably require someone from the Ubuntu MATE team to
provide hints on how to increase the session debugging level.
One other thing worth trying is to attach gdb to the Xorg server from a
ssh connection and see

Hi Alberto, I used the "echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE" to check the display
server and it returned "x11", which I assume it's Xorg (don't know
anything about this).
