Well, this is strange ?
With Hardy fsck is "GUI" integrated with the usplash screen.
No switch to terminal mode.
If I searches for fsck in Ubuntu packages I ends up with e2fsprogs.
Cannot locate other packages...
Within the usplash screen you then have a message "Press Esc to skip
check" (I thin
Hitting escape to skip checking isn't the function of e2fsprogs.
Maybe this is an upstart/initscripts thing? I haven't tried using Hardy
yet, so I'm not sure what you are referring to here, but I can tell you
for sure that e2fsprogs doesn't pay attention to the escape
character
