On further investigation, this actually seems to only effect files
played through exaile.

Exaile functioned fine on this under Gutsy as well as the fresh Hardy
install. So I assume this has something to do with the dist-upgrade and
the addition of pulse audio to Ubuntu in Hardy.

I have the same issue but i have it with all mediaplayers (only tested
with Gstreamer ones, rhytmbox and totem)
If i'm listening to some music and then switch to my browser i hear a
crackeling noice, often louder then the actual music.
