Public bug reported:

kernel hangs when trying to boot 2.6.22-14generic
this is an amd64 installation (64-bit ubuntu) created with the alternate text 
install image because system hung when trying to use non-text install

details:
boot loader comes up, i select ubuntu 7.10 kernel
bottom of screen displays:
kernel alive
kernel direct mapping tables up to 14000000(many zeroes) @ 8000-e000
then the screen goes black

note: i have conversed over irc with linux support, they suspect my
320MB 8800gts to be at fault

other system info:

Enabled)
Intel Core 2 cpu [EMAIL PROTECTED] Count: 2 FSB: 1066MHz
