Menu updates should not require a logout/login - and in my opinion the user should be aware of it to avoid the confusion. :) The solutions (the way I see it) are: a) Create a notification through notification-daemon (just like firefox does specifying it requires a restart) b) Placing .desktop in

the issue is not an epiphany-browser one but a race in the menus code, since the .desktop and the binary are in different packages the .desktop might be unpacked before having the binary available which will make the menu item not being listed since the binary it uses is not available and the menus

Reopening. I just experienced this issue myself. The icon was not in the menu, but the .desktop file(s) existed, and an option was selected in System -> Preferences -> Main Menu. Shouldn't it appear BEFORE rebooting? Other programs do add an item to the main menu instantly, while Epiphany apparently doesn't. This means that users who are not comfortable using either Alt+F2 or a console will not be able to start the application they've just installed using Add/Remove Program
