Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hal
I have two computers with Ubuntu on them, one with Gutsy, one with Hardy. Although I haven't managed to get any of them to cooperate satisfactorily with the 3rd generation iPod nano 8GB, hardy seems to have more problems recognizing the iPod in general than gutsy. The iPod shows up in Banshee on gutsy, but not on hardy. Following the troubleshooting instructions on http://banshee-project.org/Troubleshooting/iPod I checked how HAL recognizes the device, with the following results: 1. On gutsy, it shows up as an "iPod" device in hal-device-manager, as described on the troubleshooting page (although I do not see the "volume" part, even though the filesystem _is_ mounted) 2. On hardy, it show up as an "USB Mass Storage Interface" device in gnome-device-manager.
