I experience the same problem in kubuntu 9.04 no either with desktop effects
enabled or disabled.
Mentioned disabling vsync makes no difference in my case.
My version of kdebase-workspace is 4:4.2.4-0ubuntu1~jaunty1

Your issue is probably separate then, especially since the workaround
didn't work for you. I would recommend filing a new report at
bugs.kde.org about your issue.

Hi Jonathan,
this bug was obviously resolved in the meantime.
Already in September (2008) when I reinstalled Hardy KDE4 (after a few
months working with Hardy KDE3), this problem did not appear again.
Thanks,
Tristan

I think I found a solution/workaround. Disabling use vsync and kwins
CPU usage is back to normal (even with desktop effects enabled).
Tristan, could you try that too, pls?
I'm using a nvidia graphics card, maybe this has something to do with
it. Maybe vsync shouldn't be enabled by default if it

When desktop effects are enabled, I'm having this problem too (KDM takes 50% to
100% on a dual core system, even if the desktop is idle, meaning that no
window is moved, resized,...).
I'm using intrepid, GPU is nvidia.

Hi Daniel,
it is kdm4.
Yes, this Intel Core2Duo T5450 is of course a dual core system processor.
The total 50% means that one of the two cores is permantly used to 100% by kdm.
With additional applications, these 50% from kdm are slightly reduced, e.g., to
44%. The computer reacts tediously slow
Is this kdm3 or kdm4 (from kdm-kde4)? (Please change the package for the bug
report accordingly.
Are the other 50% used by other processes?
Do you have dual core system?
You could change to a virtual console (ctrl-alt-f1) and attach gdb to the
process and then get a backtrace, but that's a bit
