linked to libpolkit, in the case of helping someone debug crashes later?
There isn't. The
I got this too - is there an open bug for the crashes themselves? Didn't
find any. They are a bit annoying as NetworkManager and similar icons go
missing... :)

We are not deliberately ignoring gnome-panel crashes. One reason might
be that apport limits the number of crashes it reports against a
particular package to three per day, to not spam the user too much
(especially for processes which crash repeatedly and automatically).
Do you already have an
No, there are no crash reports for gnome-panel or similar in /var/crash/

Exactly who logs the segfault at... line to dmesg? Is that done by the kernel
or by some apport part?
Is it possible to turn on more debug messages for apport? And can I disable
these limitations like max. 3 reports per
I've had two gnome-panel crashes since I commented last and I don't have
any crash reports for gnome-panel in /var/crash/ either.

I just tried this here:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/apport stop
$ gnome-session-remove gnome-panel

$ gnome-panel # now do killall -SEGV gnome-panel in another terminal
Segmentation fault
It does not say (core dumped), thus

Ah, I know why. gnome-panel links against libpolkit now, which disables
dumpability. This is a security measure to prevent leaking of passwords,
and prevent other processes from tapping into privileged processes in
order to silently abuse their privileges.
So we need to decide whether we value

agreed, would be nice to get crasher bugs sent during the unstable cycle
and better security for stable users
