I can confirm the unasked-installation-issue has been fixed. Although I can't say I'm really happy with the misleading message... also, why doesn't it simply open jockey-gtk? Where would be the proper place to discuss such things? Anyway, the bug with the popup telling you to restart your

Fixed the confirmation dialog in bzr trunk. The current jockey is actually supposed to consider fglrx as being composite-capable (i. e. if you try to enable compiz with an ATI card, it shuold install the fglrx driver). Doesn't that work for you? If so, please open a new bug for this. ** Changed

I totally agree that gnome-appearance-properties should NOT force you to install the proprietary driver, for a number of reasons: 1. The proprietary driver is buggy. It even renders compiz effects jerkily, whereas the open-source drivers work just fine (certainly on my card and, it seems, many

No, it does not suggest you to install the driver, it does this automatically. And you do not get any information that it does this in the first place. All the user gets to see is that it installs *something* and tells you *afterwards* what it was. -- gnome-appearance-properties shouldn't

It seems this bug is a two-parter: 1. Jockey doesn't give a confirmation dialog (being fixed). 2. gnome-appearance-properties doesn't check the outcome of the operation correctly, because it displays a message saying you should try again after rebooting even if jockey fails to install fglrx
