Public bug reported: Hello,
This is a rather peculiar case. I bought a Star Trek Enterprise Season 4 DVD Box Set. I use the dvdrip application to make my own personal copy of the DVDs. This is what happens. On Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy): I can rip the DVDs and I can copy the contents of the DVDs to my PC without any errors. See the pictures: http://bildr.no/view/170071 and http://bildr.no/view/170073 --- On Hardy Heron (any alpha release), installed on the the same machine, different partition: I cannot rip the DVD. It outputs a lot of I/O errors. Also plain copy (cp -fr) fails with the same errors. DMesg is full of I/O errors. Study this pictures: http://bildr.no/view/170077 and http://bildr.no/view/170078 I have tried several Hardy Installations (both 32 and 64 bits) on this same PC. They all fail to read any video DVDs properly. I have tried other film DVDs and all fails somehow on Hardy. I have checked the cables. They are ok. I know this is a difficult issue because I have no further evidence to come up with. I will now try different kernels both with Ubuntu 7.10, Ubuntu 8.04 and Mandriva which I also run on th same pc. So long.... ** Affects: dvdrip (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Hardy Alpha6: Ripping og reading DVDs fails.
