I had this same issue. I went into preferences and noticed that
audacity was using OSS for audio. I set playback and recording to
ALSA: default and everything seems to be working perfectly. I was
able to record multi-track audio clips without any problem.

We have the same error, except that we cannot even record the first
track, when using 1.3.4 on Gutsy and Hardy.
1. Is there a workaround known?
2. Is there a way to back out of 1.3.4 and use 1.3.3 instead?

it in 1.3.4)

I get the same, also 8.04 - This may be only with v 1.3.4 of audacity
though - I've heard 1.3.3 works fine . odd to test
