Generally speaking, old hardware tends to be rather well supported in
the kernel but if it's a proprietary driver you need, it may be the
manufacturer no longer supports it.
In any case, I'm glad to hear the issue was not with Calamares :)

My graphics card is too old to have proprietary drivers in the repo (not
compatible with the kernel in 24.04 so not in the repos), but I solved the
issue by buying a newer graphics card.

I bet you running in safe graphics mode solves the problem. Then make
sure to install proprietary drivers and this should be a non-issue.
