I think 550 was not made available for most GPUs because the team wanted
(LTS) users of 535 to stay on that driver for stability. At least until
a true long term support driver release replaces 535.

My mistake, thought I'd removed the graphics-drivers PPA before
selecting the driver, but must've done it the other way around.
Looks like only options currently available to me on 24.04 with an RTX
4070 are the 535 drivers, under which I don't have an option of using
Wayland on the login screen a
