I had exactly the same problem on my Laptop (Compaq nx8200), the problem were stale dcop sessions. I resolved it as follows: $ dcop --list-sessions --all-users This lists all sessions, dcop thinks exists, and indicates for every session the user directory and the session file, which has a name

@honggoff Thanks mate! I cleared a number of obsolete .DCOPserver_hostname__1 files from different users on the system which resolved the problem. I wonder why stale files were lying around and were not tidied up automatically??.. a bit of a problem if you are not familiar with the linux
