If I create a link to /lib/modules/2.6.24-15-generic/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver,
then I can get sound... am I missing something here?

I've just updated to the latest kernel ( 2.6.24-15-generic #1 SMP )
(linux-image-2.6.24-15-generic and linux-ubuntu-
modules-2.6.24-15-generic packages) and I'm still not getting sound.

mosestruong, I think the issue you are seeing is already being address
in bug 19255
