Attached is a valgrind from when the problem happened (generally within
the first minute of starting firefox or thunderbird). There's no data in
it, though.
I've yet to repeat the problem when using strace. I'll upload one when I
can capture the problem with it.

I've reinstalled hardy. I needed firefox, and i've some troubles with
compiz & firefox 2. I can't reproduce this bug now, but i can assert
there were any memory leak or high cpu usage. It just freezed.
I suppose flash and i386 libs has something to do with this bug. When

Slashack are you saying that flash causes than fixes the issue? Maybe the is
cause of the fix by a recent upgrade to flash?

I've installed xubuntu 8.04 beta (x86_64). Installed some extra
libraries (GTK developing libraries, ia32) and flashplugin-nonfree.
